Sony HD video is pricier than most other brands. Namely, the Sony HDR-SR12 costs about $900 & not much better than the Canon HF10 which as usual cost almost a full $200 less. Canon has good entry level HD video cameras, offering better price for quality than Sony. Also in contention is the Panasonic HDC-SD9 which is seems to be the cheapest HD video camera in the market, costing only about $500. The video performance may not be as top notch as the aforementioned Canon or even the Sony model but the low price will definitely be an attractive option for video beginners. JVC, once a 3rd rated choice in 2007 falls to 4th spot with its offering of the GZ-HD6 costing almost a surprisingly high $800.
