Strength of Materials Video 2: Analysis of Stress 1

This is the second video in the Strength of Materials series; Analysis of Stress 1. Explained in this video are the answers to previous video’s questions which includes Equilibrium of Forces and Behavior of deformable member subjected to forces depend on explained axiom. Reminded in this video is that Force divided by unit area is stress hence stress multiplied by area acted upon equals Force and vector sum of the forces keeps the body in equilibrium – at any section.

Integral parts of this video is Stress Resultant Vector, Stress Components, Stress Tensor, Cross Shear are Equal, Differential Equation of Equilibrium (how to evaluate or write down stresses in different planes), finding Equation of Equilibrium in 2D, and maximum value of normal stress and shearing stress. An exercise is provided. This video lecture was presented by Professor S.K. Bhattacharyya from Department of Civil Engineering, I.I.T, Kharagpur, India, made available by the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning, a joint venture by Indian institutes of technology & Indian institutes of science. TUNE IN!
